A

xis was my first contact with the photorealism. It was a radical change in style but in the mean time a logical step in my development and was occasioned by entering the Master of Arts studies at the National Arts University in Bucharest (class of professor Petru Lucaci, PhD). This was actually my project during the first year of my master’s studies.

I chose The Body and The Fragment as the motifs of this project since I thought there is no better way to hone my skills than investigating corporality. The idea is that by viewing my body as a sort of Personal Geography, the investigation of the corporality becomes a permanent germination of ideas, the origin of the obsession to render the fragment as an embodiment of the whole. This undertaking is meant to determine the viewer’s involvement in the imaginary, and to make him relate with a particular brushwork space to build its own universe.

Three of these works, The Yellow Depression, Narcissism // no. 1 and Narcissism // no. 2, have been selected to participate in the 2013 edition of the Strabag Artaward International Competition.

With the exception of The Yellow Depression which is tempera on canvas, all the works here are painted in oil on canvas, another premiere, since I abandoned for a period the acrylic paints, much less appropriate for the photorealistic representation. With one or two exceptions, these works are all medium sized.
